The Lady Raiders defeated Grand Ledge 64-29 in their home opener. Portland's defense was too much for the Comets as they turned the ball over 27 times. Portland jumped out to a 40-15 lead heading into halftime. The Raiders shared the ball exceptionally well as three players hit double figures. Portland was led by Lilly Thelen with 14 points, 6 steals and 5 assists, Malia Thelen 12 points, and 5 assists, Summer Stopczynski with 12 points and 3 steals. Paige Spedoske also chipped in 7 points and 3 steals. Portland is now 3-0 and will face county rival Ionia on Friday night.
The JV Girls BB team improved to 2-1 on the season with a 37-26 win over the Grand Ledge Comets. Portland was led by Alexis Hengesbach with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Aaleigha Roberson pulled down 5 boards to go with her 9 points and 2 blocks. Grace Gorman pitched in with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Allie Sutberry played an all around great game with 6 steals, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists to go with her 4 points. Next up is East Lansing on Monday 12/18.
The Portland Freshman team beat St. Johns on Tuesday with a score of 46-5. Our team shared the ball well, with every girl on the roster scoring. Leading the way was Paige Weber with 12 points, Marisa Weber with 10 points, and Izzy Honsowitz with 6 points. Amari Adler, Amber Vetter, and Madelyn Collins each had 4 points, and Madison Daggett and MaKayla Krizov each had 3 points. The Raiders travel to East Lansing on Monday, the 18th to face the Trojans.
