Boys and girls basketball both played Haslett last night. All three boys teams won, the varsity score was 50-39. The JV team recorded their 5th win of the season knocking off the Haslett Vikings 47-45. Down by 2 with 20 seconds to go, Keaton McGregor hit an open AJ Weber in the corner who made the extra pass for the game winning 3 by Levi Nobis. In a balanced scoring effort, Levi led the way with 13 points, Ashton Telschow had 10, with Keaton McGregor and Tej Virk each adding 9. The Raiders next action is Thursday at home against Sexton.
The Raider Freshmen win their 3rd straight with a 50-37 victory over the Haslett Vikings, improving to 4-2 on the season. Brady Rowe scored a game high 16 points, Ethan Cassel poured in 15, and Owen Moore chipped in 10. The Raiders return to action on Thu vs Lansing Sexton at 5:30pm.
The Portland girls varsity team lost to state ranked Haslett, 61-39. The girls got off to a slow start and found themselves down 19 heading into halftime. The 3rd quarter was a different story as the Raiders battled back to cut the lead to 9 points heading into the 4th quarter. In the end, Haslett was too much, but the Raiders played tough and competed well. Portland was led by Lilly Thelen with 12 points, Malia Thelen with 10 points and Bella Spitzley with 6 points. Portland is now 7-3 and plays another Division 1 powerhouse, Holt on Saturday night.
The girls freshman basketball team improved their record to 6-0 with a 59-5 win over Lansing Eastern last night. Alexis Hengesbach led the way with 13 points, while Lauren Spitzley chipped in 11 and Grace Avery had 10. The lady Raiders travel to Sexton on Friday to take on their Varsity team and also travel to Holt on Saturday.
