The varsity girls basketball team got a nice win over St. John's, 57-42. The Raiders started out fast and got off to a 33-20 halftime lead. The pressure defense by Portland caused fits all night for St. John's as they were forced into 26 turnovers. Portland had a tremendous all-around game by Freshman Lilly Thelen who finished with 17 points, 6 steals, and 5 assists. The Raiders were led in scoring once again by Malia Thelen who finished the night with 19 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Summer Stopczynski had a great game as well, scoring 9 points, while Paige Spedoske chipped in 4 points. Portland is now 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference heading into Friday night's rivalry game against Ionia.
The Portland Raider Girls JVBB team moved to 8-0 with a 33-26 win vs St. Johns Tuesday night. Claire Lyon led the way with 9 points to go with her 5 rebounds. Erica Russman scored 8 points and added 3 boards. Anna Morris pulled down 5 rebounds and had 2 steals. Allie Sutberry had 5 points and 2 assists. Avery Wezensky scored 3 points to go with her 3 assists and Bailee Fish pitched in with 4 points. Next up is a home league matchup with Ionia, Friday at 4:00.
The Freshman girls basketball team improved their record to 5-0 with a 43-27 win over St. Johns. Alexis Hengesbach led the team with 20 points and numerous rebounds. Rounding out the scoring for the Raiders was Lauren Spitzley with 9, Rylee Miller with 7 and Abby Seavey with 6.
The boys teams traveled to St. Johns. The Raider Freshman boys moved to 2-2 with a 43-33 victory over St Johns. The Raiders were led by Brady Rowe’s 12 points. Ethan Cassel and Owen Moore contributed 9 and 8 points, respectively. The Raiders head to Ionia on Thursday.
