The varsity girls basketball team defeated Okemos, 71-28. The Raiders defensive pressure forced Okemos into 37 turnovers on the night. Portland shared the ball extremely well as four girls finished in double figures. Leading the Raiders offensive charge were Malia Thelen with 17 points, Summer Stopcynski 14 points, Jayden Townsend and Lilly Thelen with both 10 points apiece. Paige Spedoske played a nice all-around game with 6 points and 6 rebounds, while Mckenna Boykin had 8 rebounds, Alexa Weber 6 rebounds and Bella Spitzley led with 5 steals. Portland is now 2-1 and takes on Eaton Rapids on Friday for the conference opener.
The JV team moved to 3-0 with a 40-39 win. Kate Kraczon led all scores with 10 points. Anna Morris pitched in with 6 points and 5 rebounds. Claire Lyon also had 6 points to go along with 5 steals. Bailee Fish and Avery Wezensky tallied 5 points a piece. Allie Sutberry dished out 5 assists to go with her 4 points and 6 rebounds and Erica Russman cleaned up the glass with 7 boards. Next up is a league matchup with Eaton Rapids, 4:00 Friday.
The Freshman team opened up their season with a 52-5 win. Alexis Hengesbach led the team with 22 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Grace Avery chipped in 10 points and 4 rebounds.
