The Portland girls basketball team picked up two big wins in their opening week of the season. In their season opening game, Portland beat Laingsburg 57-16. The Raiders defense had an impressive performance by forcing 32 turnovers. Leading the defensive charge was Ava Guilford with 6 steals. Shalyn Dziewiatkowski did a great job rebounding and finished with 6. Leading the way offensively for Portland was Ashley Bower who finished with 18 points, Breckyn Werner and Ava Guilford had 9 points apiece and Alivia Densmore with 7 points.
On Friday night the Raiders had their first of many tough non-conference games. This was another solid defensive performance by Portland.as they held Williamston to 10 points at halftime while holding them scoreless in the 2nd quarter. The Raiders mixed up defenses keeping Williamston off balance for most of the game. Alivia Densmore and Breckyn Werner were very active on the night. Alivia finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 9 deflections while Breckyn Werner had 9 points, 6 steals, 4 rebounds and 7 deflections. The Raiders also had a strong all-around game from Ashley Bower who finished with 9 points and 6 rebounds. Portland is now 2-0 and plays Charlotte at Home on Friday night.
