On Tuesday June 1st school size, divisions, classifications, and various class grades are thrown out the window when the top high school Track & Field athletes in the area come together to compete in the Greater Lansing Honor Roll Track Meet.   Sponsored by Playmakers, over 40 different schools are represented this year, and Portland was one.   

   Representing Portland this year was their 4x200 Relay team that won or placed in every meet they competed in this year.   Over the course of the year, they used 9 different athletes, settling on Andrew Maynard, Brett Beard, Michael Almy, and Ethan Patrick, who ran a great time of 1:35.45 at Regionals.   For Portland this year it has been "next man up", so when Patrick pulled his hamstring at the CAAC Championships last week, Dustin Wolf stepped in as he has all year and they produced a 1:35.39 personal record for the year!

   Portland’s other representative was Noah Simpson, a sophomore who threw Shot, Discus, sprinted, and ran the 4x100 for the Raiders this season.   Simpson won or placed at every meet he competed in this season in the Discus.   However, when Simpson stopped running and concentrated more on the throws, his distances started to increase to a personal best of 128’ 11.5” and a 5th Place finish at the Regional Meet and a 7th Place finish at this years Honor Roll, just missing a medal.

The guys felt the experience was a great one and can't wait until next year to come back stronger!
