2021 Young Raiders Shine at St.John’s JV Invite
In their last meet of the year, many of the young Raiders Track team decided to end their 1st year of track giving it their best Monday night at St. Johns JV Invitational. The Raiders collected 25 medals in all, with 11 different athletes recording 16 “personal bests”.
Medaling for Raiders on the Track was Isaac Dakin in the 100m, Cooper Hoskins in the 200m, and Boden Nye and Jake Olsen in the 800m. Olsen also grabbed 2nd in a great 1600m race with a personal best of 5:17. Zach Underwood doubled up medaling in the 110 and 300 Hurdles. Portland’s 4x100 relay of Conner Kazamer, Jacob Rensberry, Ryan Watkins, and Jacob Pohl took 4th place, while the 4x400 relay of Jake Olsen, Zach Underwood, Jacob Rensberry, Nate Pianosi raced to a 3rd place. The 4x200 of Cooper Hoskins, Conner Kazamer, Rensberry, and Pianosi ran a great time of 1:47.86 and captured the gold medals!
In the Field Events, Portland Pole Vaulters Hoskins, Dakin, and Pohl slung themselves to 2nd, 3rd and 4th places. The Throwers were not to be outdone, with Logan Rogers tossing the Shot Put 34’ 1 ¼” and the Discus 102’ 6” both 3rd Place finishes and personal season bests, while Zane Warner heaved the Discus 102’ for 4th place. Not medaling in this meet, but moving into 7th place on Portland’s Freshman Discus Top 10 List was Devin Spitzley, who started throwing late, but will be a force in the future, with a throw of 80’ 5”.
Most of the young first time Raiders closed this season out on a high note and will hang up their spikes for the year. BUT, hopefully will keep them in a closet close by, so they can keep training a little this summer with Portland Track Club and be ready to make some noise next year!
