Boys Golf Dominates Jamboree Moving Closer to League Championship

The Portland High varsity boys golf team inched a bit further forward in their pursuit of capturing the CAAC White Division Boys Golf Title with a fifteen stroke victory over the ever close second place Lansing Catholic Cougars 170 to 185. Played at the Shadow Ridge Golf Course in Ionia (what is believed to be one of only two remaining Trent Jones designed golf courses in the US), the Raiders finished the match with five golfers producing very close and useable scores. Eaton Rapids took third with a team score of 189 followed by Ionia with a 204. Charlotte came in fifth with 206 and Lansing Sexton finished with 262.

Scoring for the Raiders were: Isaac Honsowitz who shot a 41 on the par 35 course and took match medalist honors. CJ Miller continued his steady nine-hole play with 42. Carter Rosier finished right behind Honsowitz and Miller with a 43 and Josh Rutkowski carded a solid round of 44. Although his score wasn’t used in the team total today, Luke Nobis came in with a 45.

Heading into next week’s final regular season jamboree at the Portland County, teams will be playing for tournament seeding position going into the divisional eighteen-hole tournament scheduled for May 25th at the Emerald Golf Course in St. Johns.
