The Portland varsity boy’s golf team continued on a path of playing improving, team golf at yesterday’s fourth divisional jamboree. Played at Lansing Catholic’s home course Groesbeck Golf Course, the Raiders recorded a season best, nine-hole team score of 165 to squeak the host Cougars by only three strokes who shot a team score of 168. Along with the first place finish yesterday, the Raiders also move in sole ownership of first place over the Cougars by just one point. Charlotte’s 181 edged out Eaton Rapids by four strokes to take third place; Ionia came in fifth with a 194 and Lansing Sexton finished with a 243.   

Scoring for the Raiders: CJ Miller shot a 39 on the par 36 course; Isaac Honsowitz carded a solid round of 40; Luke Nobis shot a season best nine-hole score of 42. Carter Rosier complete the Raider team scoring finishing with a 44.

With two divisional jamborees and the divisional eighteen-hole tournament remaining, the CAAC White Division boys golf standings has developed into a two-tiered race at this point of the season. Portland and Lansing Catholic battling for first and Charlotte and Eaton Rapids for third.

Next up for the Raiders is tomorrow’s (Friday, May 7^th) high profiled field of Lansing area boy golf teams at the St. John’s Redwing Invitational Tournament. This eighteen-hole event featuring mostly D1 and D2 golf teams is being played that the ever challenging Emerald Golf Course near Maple Rapids.
