Portland Girls Varsity Soccer continued CAAC White League play yesterday with a shutout win over Charlotte 3-0. The Raiders extended their winning streak to 4 games and haven't conceded a goal in the last three straight. Portland got off to a 1-0 lead ten minutes into the first half with a goal from Hannah Schrauben assisted on a cross from Ashely Bower. The score increase 2-0 prior to end of the second half with a goal from Ashley Bower. The Raiders continued to pressure Charlotte's defense looking for additional scoring opportunities. In last two minutes of play in the game Madison Luxmore was able to find the lower right corner of net with a long distance goal from outside the 18 yard line. Katelyn Stanton earned the her third straight shutout of the season in goal for the Raiders.
Girls Varsity Soccer moves to a 5-3 record and 2-1 in the CAAC White Division. They will travel to Ithaca this coming Saturday 08 May for the Battle at the Hive soccer tournament.
Girls Varisty Soccer traveled to Ithaca on Saturday for the Battle at the Hive Soccer Tournament. In round one the Raiders faced state ranked Williamston High School. The Hornets jumped on the board quickly scoreing in the first few minutes of play. The Raiders quickly gained their composure and battled hard keeping Williamston from scoring again unitl the second half. Portland was able to generate a few scoring opportunites but wasn't able to find the net. The game ended with a 0-3 loss.
With only a short break between games the Raiders were back on the field for game two against Ithaca. They quickely dominated the field of play and didn't give Ithaca many chances for a run at goal. Molly Johnson found the goal first for the Raiders on a cross that bounce off an Ithaca player into the net. Shaylyn Dziewiatkowski put in another goal just before the half with a shot just outside the 18 yard line. Nothing changed for the Raiders in the second half as they continued to shut down the offense of the opposing team. Dziewiatkowski got the third goal for the Raiders 10 minutes into the second half. The ball continued to stay in the Raiders offensive half for the rest of the game. Dziewiatkowski found the net again before the end of the game putting the final score at 4-0. Katelyn Stanton finished in net for the Raiders getting her fourth shut out of the season.
Girls Soccer moves to 6-4 on the season and have a busy week ahead of them as they travel to Lansing Everett on Monday, host Ionia on Wednesday and will travel to Fowlerville on Thursday.
