Track Teams Start Off Season With a Bang

The Portland Girls Track team traveled to Lansing Catholic Tuesday night for it's first conference meet of the season.  It was the first meet of the year for the Raiders who fell short, 79-52. Portland had some outstanding performances throughout the night! 1st place finishers were Cat Svanda (4x100, 100M, and 200M), Lily Buckland (Pole Vault, Long Jump and 100H), Destiny Foltz (4x100), Adrienne Hinds (4x100) and Hanna Holiday (4x100). The Raiders are back in action on Friday where they will travel to Marshall for the 1st invitational of the year.

The Portland Boys Track team traveled to Lansing Catholic Tuesday night for an early season brawl with the Cougars.   It was the first meet of the year for the Raiders who fell short, BUT even more exciting was that it was the first meet EVER for many Raiders out for Track this spring season.  The young Raiders didn’t disappoint showing A LOT of promise and fire in the way they competed.

The sprints were strong with Andrew Maynard and Baron Seal sprinting to a 1st and 2nd in the 100.   Reiss Phillips, Adam Hoffmeyer, and Noah Simpson shared spots with Seal and Maynard on winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays.   Simpson, Evan Bower, and Logan Rogers swept the Discus and took 2nd & 3rd in the Shot.

Ben Wassmus & Yannis Maurer took 2nd & 3rd in the 400, while Copper Hoskins & Jason Pohl grabbed 2nd & 3rd in the Pole Vault.   Colin Calley jumped to 2nd place finish in the High Jump, and Zach Underwood got a 2nd and 3rd in both the 100 & 300 hurdes.   There were many youngsters competing on just a few practices and  Jake Olsen was one turning in a great time in the mile and a gutsy performance in the 800.   Boden Nye totally surprised coaches in the 2-mile and Baron Seal may have run himself into an anchor leg on the 4x400. Many other Raiders turned in personal bests and leaving the coaching staff very encouraged.
