Portland hosted their 4th tournament in two weeks on Saturday. This may have been the closest tournament we've played so far. All of the teams were very evenly matched. 15 of the 48 matches played on the day went to three sets. Unfortunately, Portland didn't get enough of those matches and ended up in 4th place. Parma Western and Big Rapids are both solid division 3 teams and it's great to know that we can play close to even with them. Whitehall is a division 4 team, like us, that qualifies for the state tournament almost every year. Even though we didn't finish where we wanted to, I'm very happy with how we played today. 2 doubles has finished 2nd in every tourney so far this year and they finally managed to claim the top spot. We also asked Gage Rodriguez to step in for Dane Wildrom at 4 doubles. That's a tough thing to do. 4 doubles didn't win any matches today, but they did show that I can count on some other guys to fill in if I need them. Next week we will be adding Yannis Maurer to the line up. He's an exchange student from Germany that has been playing tennis for quite a while. The whole team is excited to see if he can help add to our line up. We'll find out when we host Williamston on Tuesday.
