Williamston 19, Portland 17, Essexville-Garber 6, Grant 6

Portland tennis hosted their third quad in a week. We finished in second place for the third time also. This was a tough tournament with four teams that traditionally do very well in their regional and state tournaments. Grant and Garber are rebuilding this year, but both have strong teams and great coaches that will get them where they need to be by the end of the season. Williamston brought back a very strong team after their first place finish in regionals last year and were still too much too beat. I saw some very strong performances from three of our doubles teams today. 2 doubles played really well but ran into a tough Williamston team. They finished as runners up for the third time this year. 3 and 4 doubles were both flight champions. We've spent a few days working on aggressive doubles play and I could see that both teams were really trying to apply those lessons. Portland will play again Thursday in our first duel match of the season at Haslett.
