Played at the Ironwood Golf Club in Howell, the girl’s JV golf team claimed
their second tournament championship of the season! Portland, a MHSAA
classified Division Three school for the 2019 golf season, was the only team
in the six team tournament field that wasn’t a Division One school. The
Raiders captured the JV Howell Highlander Classic Tournament title with a
Portland JV record best eighteen-hole team score of 419. Plymouth finished in
second place with a team score of 435 and Ann Arbor Skyline took third place
with a 488.
Scoring for the Raiders: Gina Sonday earned tournament’s medalist honors
with best round of the day shooting an excellent round of 95; Aubree Faulkner
carded the fourth best individual score with a 105; Madison Lockwood finished
in fifth place individually with a 106 and Jada Spitzley shot 113 for a
seventh place.
Portland’s varsity and JV teams will travel to Ionia on Tuesday to play in
the fifth league jamboree match at Ionia’s home course Shadow Ridge Golf
Course.
