Played on the front nine-holes of the Groesbeck Golf Course in Lansing, the Portland girl’s JV golf team captured first place in the Lansing Catholic Cougar JV Invitational yesterday afternoon. The Raiders shot a team score of 211 to outdistance the host, runners up Lansing Catholic Central Cougars by eleven strokes (222). Charlotte finished in third with a 231 to give the CAAC White Division teams a one, two, three finish at the invitational. East Lansing shot a 245 and Holt totaled a 252.
Scoring and medaling for Raiders were: Freshman Aubree Faulkner earned the invitational medalist honors with the events best score of day out of twenty-nine golfers and a personal best 49; Gina Sonday came in second place individually just behind teammate Faulkner and medaled individually with a 50; Madison Lockwood carded a 56 and earned a sixth place, individual medal and Josie Goodman, just missed out on medaling individually, shot a 57.
Portland’s varsity and JV teams will travel to Eaton Rapids next Monday to play in the third of six league jamboree matches at ER’s home course Bonnie View Golf Course.
