“Total Team Effort” was the theme of the night as the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams competed separate, BUT together, in a unique Eaton Rapids “Class Invitational” Tuesday night. Boys run with boys and girls with girls, however each athlete competes against his own grade level (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior), with points given according to his finish time, place, and points verse his age group and gender. Then Boys and Girls scorers are then added together to crown one champion.
This twist creates a little added excitement than a “normally” run meet. However, with temperatures hovering close to 90 degrees and humidity extremely high, many athletes struggled and times were not as quick. Water intake and mental toughness is very important on these kinds of nights, and while the Raider men fought hard, times were less than what they had hoped. The lone bright spot for the boys was Cater Rosier, who was also not happy with his time, BUT manage to cut over 1 and a ½ minutes off his own best time for this course.
The guys will be competing in their first CAAC Jamboree on the Grand Woods Course in Lansing next Tuesday. Go get em’ Raiders!
