Golf:
Tuesday afternoon, the varsity boy’s golf team played in their fourth of
six White Division jamborees at Lansing Catholic’s second home course -
Groesbeck. For the second time in four jamborees, the Raiders came up just
two strokes shy of taking down divisional leading Lansing Catholic Central.
The Cougar’s shot team score of 172 to Portland’s season’s, nine-hole best
score of 174. Ionia finished in third with a 185. Charlotte’s score of 210
took fourth and Eaton Rapids had a 254.
Scoring for the Raiders was: Zach Pier with a three over par 39. A trio of
Raiders – Ethan Getchell, Jared Thomas and Hayden Getchell all carded bogey
rounds of 45.
Tuesday night the JV Golf team traveled to Ionia to play in their 4th Jamboree of the season at Rolling Hills. The guys played their best golf of the season and came home in first place! Scoring for the Raiders were CJ Miller, who was the medalist, scored a 41, Josh Rutkowski with a 45, Owen Goodman with a 47 and Collin Pung with a 53.
The varsity boy’s golf team finished in second place at yesterday’s fifth
divisional jamboree by five strokes to the divisional leading Cougars of
Lansing Catholic by the score of 176 to 181. Continuing on a path of playing
improving and consistent team golf, the Raiders continued to secure their
dominance of second place in the divisional standings by out swinging the
Ionia Bulldogs by twelve strokes that finished in third place yesterday with
a team score of 193. Charlotte shot a 212 to take fourth place with Eaton
Rapids finishing in fifth place with a 241.
Scoring for the Raiders was: Zach Pier who shot a 40 on the par 35 course;
Jared Thomas came in with a 45; Ethan Getchell finished with 46 and Hayden
Getchell carded a 50.
Heading into next week’s final regular season jamboree at the Portland County
Club, the divisional standings have: Lansing Catholic Central in first with
a 25 & 0 record, Portland in second at 19 & 56, Ionia is 15 & 10 for third
place, Charlotte is fourth at 11 & 14, Eaton Rapids, in fifth, is 5 & 20 and
Lansing Sexton 0 & 25. Team will be playing at next week’s jamboree for
seeding position and final standings going into the divisional tournament
scheduled for May 21 st at the Emerald in St. Johns.
Tennis:
Over the past few days, the Varsity Girls Tennis team hosted several other top teams in Division 4. On Saturday, Portland defeated #4 ranked Ann Arbor Greenhils 6-2, and shutout Kalamazoo Hackett 8-0. Yesterday the team played a tough match against #9 ranked Jackson Lumen Christi, ending in a 4-4 tie. These matches certainly prove why Portland Tennis is also considered one of the best D4 teams in the state! We host the CAAC-White championship tournament on Thursday when the Raiders will put up a fight to remain at the top of the league after a 5-0 league dual record.
Baseball:
The varsity baseball team won two league games Tuesday night 27-0 and 21-2 at Sexton. The Raiders combined for 14 hits in 3 innings in the first game with Cade Parmalee getting the win. The second game the Raiders combined for 17 hits in 3 innings and Brody Smith received the win. The Raiders next game is this weekend for a tournament in St. Johns.
