The Portland Varsity Softball team swept Ionia last night in a league doubleheader. In game one
the Raiders defeated the Bulldogs by the score of 10 - 0 in six innings. Adrianna Novara picked
up the win by pitching a 2 hit shutout and striking out 8 Ionia batters. Leading hitters for the
game were Maria Krause who went 3 for 3 with 2 RBI’s and Jada Walton who went 3 for 4 with
2 RBI’s. Also coming up big was Brooke Seal went 2 for 3 with a triple and her first ever home
run and Sophie Novara who went 2 for 4.
Portland mercied Ionia in the second game by the score of 16 - 1 in three innings. The Raiders
continued their torrid pace on offense coming up with 15 hits in only 3 innings. Maria Krause
went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI’s and hit her first varsity home run. Sophie Novara and Natalie
Linebaugh went 3 for 3 in the game and Allison Summers added two hits. Adrianna Novara
picked up her second win of the day allowing 1 hit in two innings and Sophie Novara pitched the
final inning in relief. The Raiders are now 4 - 0 in the league and 7 and 2 overall.
Portland also swept Fowlerville on Thursday but no stats were submitted by the print deadline. Varsity Softball is now 9-2 on the season.
