Held at the Morrison Lake Golf Course, the varsity boy’s golf team played in
the Ionia County Shoot-Out last Saturday. With sunny skies, twenty to twenty-
five mile per hour northerly winds and a thirty-two degree feel like
temperature at the start of the eighteen-hole tournament, the Raiders
struggled to put together four scorers with very good rounds on Saturday.
Lakewood captured this year’s championship with a forty-five stroke margin
and a team score of 341. Ionia finished in second place with a 386; the
Raiders took third with a 398; Pewamo-Westphalia was fourth at 404 and
Belding shot team score of 412.
Ethan Getchell earned fifth place on the all-tournament team and was the
Raiders leading scorer with an 88; Jared Thomas finished with a 101; Luke
Nobis shot a 104 and Spencer Pohl had a 105.
The varsity golf team traveled to Alma today to compete in the Panther
Invitational at the Pine River Country Club.
Playing in a second eighteen-hole tournament in three days, the varsity boy’s
golf team put together an improved showing in the fourteen-team Alma Panther
Invitational yesterday. Played at the Pine River Country Club in Alma,
Saginaw Swan Valley earned top team tournament honors with a team score of
359. Shepard finished in second place with a 364 and St. Louis took third
place with a score of 376. Portland’s team total of 393 earns them an eight
win and five loss record at the tournament.
In individual scoring for the Raider’s, Hayden Getchell carded Portland’s low
score for the match with a 93. Jared Thomas played his personal best
eighteen-hole round with an 94. Ethan Getchell carded a 98 and Spencer Pohl
rounded out the Raiders team scoring with a 108.
The next varsity match is this afternoon (Tuesday, April 23 rd ). The Raiders
will be making up last weeks postponed divisional jamboree at the Maple Brook
Golf Course in Charlotte.
